A Parliament delegation that went to Israel on the Malawi – Israel labour export deal arrangement says the Ministry of Labour should establish a proper legal framework on labour export and get more involved in processes leading to recruitment of Malawian workers.
Mwanza West Parliamenterian, Joyce Chitsulo, made the remarks in Parliament when she presented a report on the visit to Israel in light of claims that some Malawian youths are running away from their workplaces.
Chitsulo said close to 700 Malawians were employed on Israel farms and so far, 27 had run away from their work place.
Chitsulo has attributed the development to the anomalies in the recruitment process, adding that those who have escaped are from well-to-do families and degree holders.
The report has recommended that identification of the workers should be done at Constituency level to reach out to deserving youths.
Malawi is expected to send 10,000 youths to Israel by April this year.
