MEC to roll out pilot voter registration

 Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is set to roll out pilot voter registration in eight districts in the country as a way of testing their newly procured registration equipment.

According to the electoral body, the equipment will be used in mass voter registration prior to the 2025 general elections.

MEC Commissioner, Emmanuel Fabiano made the remarks in Balaka on Wednesday during a briefing of the programme to the District Election Supervisory Committee, Multi-Party Liaison Committee and the media.

Fabiano said that during the pilot phase, registered voters will receive a voter certificate, though it will be retained by the registration team rather than distributed on-site.

The pilot registration which will commence on 13th September, 2024 will happen in Balaka, Blantyre, Lilongwe, Mzuzu, Chitipa, Neno, Dedza and Nsanje.
