Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has shifted registration of voters in the coming 2025 elections from September to a later date.
MEC Chairperson, Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, made the disclosure in Lilongwe during the National Elections Consultative Forum (NECOF).
According to Mtalimanja, the postponement will give room for the commission to first conduct a pilot registration process, which will help to test the Election Management Devices (EMDs) before the full scale registration.
She said the commission has come up with a comprehensive report of activities ahead of the 2025 elections following questions and recommendations it received from stakeholders.
Mtalimanja further said MEC is committed in ensuring that the elections are inclusive and conducted in accordance with the laws of the country.
The NECOF seeks to provide a platform for a proactive engagement between MEC and stakeholders and how best to come up with decisions that will significantly manage disputes and conflicts in the 2025 Electoral Processes.
