Minister of Justice, Titus Mvalo, says there is a need for a strong legal framework on asset declaration.
He has said this in Lilongwe when opening a national validation workshop on the review of the Public Officers’ Declaration of Assets Liabilities and Business Interests Act.
Mvalo says currently, there are so many gaps in the law being used as it does not provide sufficient powers to enforce compliance and sanctions on those not complying with the law.
He says the law under review will promote integrity and combat corruption, among other aspects.
Deputy Chairperson of the Special Law Commission on the review of the Act, Reyneck Matemba, says the Act will provide strong sanctions and a platform for public officers to do online declaration of their assets liabilities, and business interests.
The country is currently using an Act that was enacted in 2014.
