A 17-year-old girl, identified as Judith Chirwa, on Monday took her own life at Zimale Farm Forest in Mzimba following a dispute with her father.
Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police Station, Macfarlen Mseteka, said the father of the deceased girl decided to stop paying school fees for her.
“We’ve learned that this situation affected Judith [Chirwa] and on February 4, 2024, she went missing,” said Mseteka. “A search was carried out that ended with the discovery of her lifeless body hanging under a tree at Zimale farm forest.”
According to Mseteka, the matter was reported to Embangweni Police Unit and the crime scene was visited along with medical personnel from Vibangalala Health Centre.
A postmortem revealed that the cause of death was suffocation secondary to hanging.
Judith Chirwa hailed from Kanjoka Zimba village, Traditional Authority Mzukuzuku in Mzimba District.
