Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) has launched its tree planting drive at Lisungwi CDSS in Neno, with Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola calling on every Malawian to plant a tree.
Matola urged communities to protect trees, stressing that they have a lot of social economic benefits aside from protecting water catchment areas for power generation.
EGENCO plans to plant 35,000 seedlings across Malawi, with 5,000 seedlings planted at Lisungwi CDSS.
President Dr Lazarus Chakwera launched the season in Phalombe District last month.
The theme for this year is “Forest Innovation in Action: Reforestation for a Sustainable Tomorrow”.
