Community members applaud government for CS-EPWP in Likoma

Community members on Likoma Island have hailed the government for the Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme (CS-EPWP), citing significant improvements in their living standards.

Nelly Likoche, a participant from Madimba, said that the programme has transformed her life for the better since its introduction. “My life has completely changed for the better,” she noted.

Jane Malata, another participant from Mgwirizano Village Development Committee, emphasised the programme’s importance to many families in the district.

“This programme is a relief to many families, including myself. Once I receive the money, I ensure I buy food for my family and pay my son’s school fees. Whenever people get their money, many of them head straight to the market to buy maize,” Malata explained.

Ashems Songwe, Member of Parliament for Likoma, advised participants to invest in small-scale businesses to sustain their livelihoods beyond the programme.

The Climate Smart Enhanced Public Works Programme forms part of the Social Support for Resilient Livelihood Programme, funded by the World Bank and the Multi-Donor Trust Fund.
