COMESA Week commences in Madagascar

The inaugural COMESA Week has been launched in Antananarivo on Monday, June 24, 2024, marking the start of a week-long series of events aimed at increasing public awareness of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa’s (COMESA) regional integration agenda.

The initiative is a part of the organization’s activities to commemorate its 30th anniversary later this year.

The event has been organised by the COMESA Secretariat in collaboration with the Government of Madagascar with support from the European Union under the Institutional Capacity Building Programme.

The week will feature a variety of activities, including a mini expo attracting small entrepreneurs, a media sensitisation forum on regional integration, and multi-stakeholder dialogues focusing on women, youth, and student engagement at the University of Antananarivo.

The highlight of COMESA Week will be the 5th COMESA Federation of Women in Business (COMFWB) Trade Fair and Business Conference, scheduled for June 28 and 29.

The event will bring together national chapters of COMFWB from COMESA member states and female entrepreneurs from Madagascar and across the region.

Various international and local corporations are expected to support the event.

The launch ceremony was led by Madagascar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rafaravavitafika Rasata, alongside COMESA Assistant Secretary General for Administration and Finance, Dev Haman.
