President Dr Lazarus Chakwera will on Tuesday, 8 August 2023 commission the Raised and Rehabilitated Kamuzu Dam at Malingunde, Senior Traditional Authority Masumbankhunda in Lilongwe.
The Office of the President and Cabinet says Dr Chakwera is expected to arrive at the venue at 9 am.
In a statement, it adds thereafter, Dr Chakwera will hold a development rally at Kalonga Community Day Secondary School, Senior Traditional Authority Masula in the district.
Located on Lilongwe River, 20 kilometres southwest of Lilongwe City, Kamuzu Dam I was constructed in 1966.
The raising of Kamuzu Dam I and the rehabilitation of Kamuzu Dam II provide a combined catchment area of 1,870 km2.
It is estimated that the 5-metre raising of Kamuzu Dam I would significantly help address the rising demand for potable water in Lilongwe City and surrounding areas.
