President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has arrived in Lilongwe from Blantyre where he attended Chiwembe Seventh Day Adventist Church Centenary Celebrations held at Mjamba Freedom Park.
Upon arrival at Kamuzu International Airport, President Dr Lazarus Chakwera was welcomed by Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, government and party officials.
Speaking to the congregation at Mjamba Freedom Park, Dr Chakwera urged the SDA Church to continue spreading the gospel as spiritual and morally upright people help the government realise its development aspirations.
Further to this, the Malawi leader commended the church for its positive contributions in various sectors including health and education with a gentle appeal to the church to build on the momentum and engage in more developmental projects till the Lord comes. It was announced that the First Couple supported the centenary celebrations with K5 million and as a token of appreciation, the President of Malawi Union of Seventh Day Adventist Church, Pastor Tony Yolamu Nyirenda presented a Family Bible to the First Couple.
For the past two weeks, Pastor Daniel Chuunga President of Woodlands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists in Zambia delivered sermons at Mjamba Freedom Park which were also broadcast on various television and radio stations in the country. His closing sermon was titled: ‘All is well that ends well!’ Over 3000 people have been baptised.
