ACB is exonerating itself from skeptics — Kondowe

Governance expert, Caesar Kondowe, believes the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is exonerating itself from skeptics and elevating people’s confidence following the arrest of the Northern Region’s top cop, Commissioner Richard Luhanga.

On Monday, ACB arrested Luhanga for abuse of office allegations, which is contrary to section 25 B (1) as read together with Section 25 b (4) and 34 of the Corrupt Practices Act.

In an interview with MBC Digital, Kondowe said Malawians would be delighted if the ACB concluded the case instead of giving excuses in court.

“When the trial commences, we don’t want the ACB to start asking for more time to gather enough evidence; that will be retrogressive,” Kondowe said.

Luhanga, who is currently on bail, is alleged to have committed the offense around 2022/2023 in Mzuzu.

According to ACB Principal Public Relations Officer Egritta Ndala, Luhanga is suspected of having diverted paint that was donated by Press Trust Limited to Mzuzu Police Hospital to his Estate at Bolero in Rumphi District.

Ndala added that Luhanga is also suspected of having abused his office while serving as Commissioner of Police in Mzuzu between 2022 and 2023.
