High Commissioner of Tanzania to Malawi, Agnes Kayola, says her country remains committed to advancing access to high-quality and specialised healthcare services for the people of Malawi and Africa at large.
The High Commissioner made the remarks when she officially launched a medical camp outreach at Mzuzu Central Hospital, which is providing specialised services in orthopaedic and neurological procedures, as well as treatment for burn injuries and urological conditions, among others.
She said the initiative is a result of the cordial relationship that exists between the two sister countries.
Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Dr Dan Namalika, commended the Government of Tanzania for the medical assistance, saying the initiative comes as a relief to Malawi, which has a limited number of medical specialists.
Namalika said approximately 196 patients have so far received medical attention at the temporary medical facility.
A team of specialists from Tanzania’s Benjamin Mkapa Hospital in Dodoma, in collaboration with Malawian doctors, commenced the medical camp outreach at Mzuzu Central Hospital on 28 September and is expected to conclude on 2 October this year.
Among other services, the team is also assisting with assessments for kidney and bone marrow transplants at Mzuzu Central Hospital.
The second medical camp is scheduled to take place at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe from 5 to 9 October.
