India pledges support for Malawi’s artificial limb centre dream

India says it is committed to support Malawi in establishing its own artificial limb fitment centre.

India’s High Commissioner to Malawi, Shri Goparakhrishnan, said this in Lilongwe during the closing ceremony of the second artificial limb fitment camp, reaffirming their continued support through India for Humanity initiative to help Malawi build a self-sustaining centre.

Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daud, commended the Indian government for the support, saying it will help people with disabilities and amputees. She added that a local limb fitment centre would reduce government expenses for overseas treatments and improve the lives of people with disabilities.

In 2018, the government of India through India for Humanity supported 500 Malawians with artificial limbs and 600 have benefitted in the second artificial limb fitment camp.
