Principal Resident Magistrate’s Court in Mzuzu has sentenced Francis Mhone to 17 years imprisonment with hard labour for having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old girl.
Mhone was in a relationship with the girl and on November 19, 2024, her parents noticed that she did not sleep at home but instead slept at the convict’s house.
The issue was reported at Mzuzu Police Station, leading to Mhone’s arrest. A hospital examination revealed signs of penetration and she was also found pregnant.
Mhone accepted the charge and asked for leniency because he is a first offender and a family man taking care of his wife and a 6-year-old child.
However, Principal Resident Magistrate Clemence Chamwenda gave out a stiff penalty as a deterrent to others.
Mhone hails from Chibeti Village, Traditional Authority Kabunduli in Nkhatabay District.
