Zamba bemoans low adoption rate of World Bank resources by project implementers

Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Colleen Zamba has called on the World Bank to ensure timely disbursement of resources, saying some delays by implementers of various World Bank funded projects emanate from the bank’s internal processes.

Zamba made the call at the World Bank Country Performance Portfolio Review underway in Lilongwe, whose aim is to assess implementation of various World Bank funded projects.

The meeting has observed that low absorption rate of funds means inefficiency on the part of some implementers, something that has to be corrected.

The SPC has also demanded timely completion of projects and reminded those responsible to realize that they are stewards working for Malawians.

World Bank Country Manager Firas Raad said overall, the Bank is impressed with Malawi’s performance on various projects.

The World Bank is providing K 2.5 billion for projects such as social protection, agriculture and water.
