Tigers claim bitter-sweet 3 points

Mighty Tigers have claimed a bitter-sweet three points as they have defeated Chitipa United 1-0, but at a cost of Greyson Msowoya, the goalscorer, who got injured while scoring.

Msowoya collided with Chitipa’s goalie, Jacob Anyandwile, in the 42nd minute and lost consciousness after a concussion, and he was immediately replaced with Levison Gopani.

In the first half, Tigers came wave after wave of attacking, but they were not clinical, and in the 22nd minute, Msowoya even had his first attempt on target but was ruled offside.

In the second half, the Tigers continued with their dominance but lacked precision.

Meanwhile, Chitipa United rarely had strong threats to trouble their opponents.

At the end of the match, Tigers’ midfielder, Shukran Affick, was named the man of the match.

The result has pushed Tigers to 6th on the log table, with 9 points, tying with 5th placed Karonga United but separated by goals.

But for Chitipa, it has left them 13th with points.

Mighty Tigers’ Head Coach, Leo Mpulula, said it was a tough game for them.

“You know we are coming from a rough ride, but after a win, we are now back to our normal routine, whereby we are playing good football,” Mpulula said.

On the other hand, Assistant Coach for Chitipa United, Sullivan Kandulu, faulted the game’s officials for the loss.

“We can not blame the boys because but we just need to be professional, because if the officiating personnel are blowing fairly, it will improve the professional football here in Malawi,” he said.

However, he stressed that his side will remain in the league. This is despite them winning once, drawing twice and losing thrice.

“As you have seen, we have played away, and most of these teams we have played here will play them at home, so we will get good results at home,” Kandulu said.

League action returns this weekend.

On Sunday, defending champions, Silver Strikers, will play away at Kamuzu Stadium against Mighty Wanderers, while FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will play against Kamuzu Barracks on Saturday at the same venue.
