Ministry of Education says public officers, including self-upgraded or government-sponsored secondary school teachers, are required to attend and compete in promotional interviews to move to the next grade.
Secretary for Education, Professor Mangani Chilala Katundu, said self-academic upgrading does not automatically lead to promotion.
Katundu further said government will continue to put aside resources to facilitate the promotion of more teachers in line with the ministry’s drive to improve the welfare of teachers in the country.
He added that the ministry is working to regularise the status of primary school teachers who were moved to teach in secondary schools.
