Press Trust is set to construct a new hospital ward at Kande Rural Health Centre in the area of Senior Chief Fukamapiri in Nkhata Bay District to improve healthcare facilities in rural areas.
During the contractor’s site handover ceremony, Johannes Kumpata, the Operations Manager at Press Trust, announced that the project, to cost approximately K240 million, will significantly improve health service delivery in the district.
“We are committed to supporting the government’s efforts in providing quality healthcare services to all Malawians,” said Kumpata.
According to Kumpata, the hospital ward will be able to host 30 to 35 patients and will be divided into two sections of male and female.
Topcy Mdolo, Nkhata Bay Director of Health and Social Services, has since commended Press Trust for the gesture, saying it will improve the local healthcare system.
“Once completed, the new hospital ward will greatly alleviate the pressure that we always have due to limited space in the wards. More patients will be admitted and treated in a conducive environment without relying on referrals to Chintheche and Nkhata Bay District Hospital,” Mdolo said.
Senior Chief Fukamapiri expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting that it will not only improve health services but also create job opportunities for community members.
