As a show of respect to the country’s former vice president, late Dr. Saulos Chilima and music icon, late Lucius Banda, the Maseko Ngoni have postponed their annual cultural festival known as Mshangano.
During a press briefing at the Maseko Ngoni headquarters in Lizulu, Ntcheu, Paramount Chief Goman V confirmed the move, adding that it is also in recognition of the contributions that late Chilima and his wife, Mary, have made to the promotion and preservation of Maseko Ngoni cultural events.
He said the late Banda was also a key member of the festival’s fundraising committee and played a vital role in the cultural celebration.
Social commentator, Liyati Phiri, said the issue has come at the right time and shows solidarity.
Each year, the Maseko Ngoni host cultural events at Mkolimbo in Ntcheu, celebrating their rich heritage and traditions.
