Phalombe District Council has handed over a K79.8 million classroom block to Chazinga Primary School in the district, with a call to communities to take care of the facility.
The structure has been constructed under the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) Project.
Chief Education Officer for the district, Sonnex Rikharuwe, said the new classrooms will help address the classroom-pupil ratio.
Headteacher of Chazinga Primary School, Waille Chilopha, expressed eagerness, observing that the classroom block would support the school’s ability to provide quality education.
District Council Chairperson, Agason Sompho, and Director of Planning and Development (DPD) Kelvin Harawa stressed the importance of community members embracing and maintaining the project to ensure its durability and intended purpose.
The school, which was established in 1994, has an enrollment of 2,155 pupils, has only three classroom blocks, but newly constructed classroom blocks bring the total number of classrooms to eight.
