Wildlife & Environmental Society of Malawi’s Environmental and Communications Manager, Ausward Bonongwe, says they have put in place measures aimed at taking care of trees planted in the ongoing tree planting season.
He was speaking at Mganthira Primary School in Mzuzu during the official launch of Old Mutual Malawi “It’s tree planting season” initiative.
Old Mutual Malawi official, Patience Chatsika, said the company plans to plant over 10,000 tree seedlings this forestry season.
She said the initiative is in line with its mission of supporting the government to achieve the forest reforestation drive.
“As a responsible business player we always cherish the good working relationship between us and the government in its reforestation drive hence our taking part,” said Chatsika.
Forestry Zone Officer in the Northern Region, Kelvin Chisaka, said his office is promoting the regeneration of trees as a step towards the reforestation drive in the region.

Reports indicate that 65 percent of trees planted during the 2024/24 tree planting season have survived.
