NYCOM splashes K100 million grants for youth

National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) has launched a K100 million youth cooperative grants programme which is aimed at boosting small-scale businesses and enable young people in Malawi to become economically self-reliant.

NYCOM’s Chief Executive Officer, Rex Chapota, emphasised the importance of economic empowerment for the youth during the launch in Mangochi, on Monday.

Chapota said the Money has been provided by the Malawi Government to go towards NYCOM’ Youth Participation and Empowerment program.

“NYCOM’s mandate is to encourage, promote and coordinate youth development in Malawi to create a lasting impact on youth development in the country,” he said.

NYCOM has since provided a K5 Million Kwacha grant to Ndumundu Youth Cooperative to boost their Agriculture-centred programs of producing Soya and add value to produce Soya Pieces and Soy Milk.

Chairperson of the group, Yohane Kampira, said the grant is a step forward to empower themselves economically.
