Malawi National Football Team Under-20 has won their second assignment at the 2024 COSAFA Under-20 tournament after defeating Comoros 2-1 at ABB Stadium in Maputo, Mozambique.
Flames’ Adiel Kaduya was first to score on the 10th minute but Comoros levelled on the 26th minute. However, scored his second and Malawi’s final on the 77th minute after he beat the Comoros keeper.
Despite dominating possession for the majority of the first-half, Malawi’s goalie, Innoncent Kamwambi was given a red card on the 45th minute after an erroneous clearance.
This was followed by making prompt substitutions which saw Willard Sande (Goalkeeper) and Madalitso Safuli (Attacking Midfielder) replacing Benson Makawa (Central Striker) and Mwisho Mhango (Attacking Midfielder) to adjust after falling short with a man.
In the dying minutes of the 90, Malawi were down to 9 men after Centre Back, Edward Thengo, was red carded for allegedly delaying restart of play.
On Friday, Malawi suffered a 5-0 defeat in their opening match of the contest.
This result places South Africa at the top of Group C with 6 points. Comoros sits in second place, while Malawi is third — all separated by goal differences.
Lesotho currently occupies the bottom position with no points.
Next up, Malawi will face Lesotho on 1 October while Comoros will face South Africa on the same day.
