Several Malawians have joined the people of Japan in Lilongwe in celebrating the 64th birthday of Emperor Naruhito.
Guest of honour at the event, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, said the diplomatic tie between the two countries is beneficial to Malawi, evidenced by several forms of donations that Japan makes to Malawi, including the funding for the Lilongwe Bridge currently under construction.
Japanese Ambassador to Malawi Yoichi Oya said the emperor’s birthday serves as a symbol of unity in their culture.
He then thanked the people of Malawi for being warm and kind.
The relationship between Malawi and Japan has clocked 60 years this year.
