The Media Council of Malawi (MCM) has urged journalists to prioritise their safety when covering elections.
MCM Executive Director Moses Kaufa made the remarks during a daylong training on the safety of journalists during elections in Blantyre.
Kaufa said the council is working with various institutions, including the Malawi Police to ensure the safety of journalists during this period.
Deputy National Police spokesperson Harry Namwaza in his presentation, said the police are ready to work with media and other institutions to protect journalists.
He also asked journalists to collaborate with the police to ensure their safety.
Some of the facilitators, Dr George Mindano and Bayana Chunga, emphasised the significance of collaboration between the media and other stakeholders, such as the police in protecting journalists from physical, emotional, or cyber attacks.
