MDF, MPS arrest 43 in Lilongwe security sweep

The Malawi Defence Force in collaboration with the Malawi Police Services has arrested 43 individuals suspected of terrorising and stealing in various locations across Lilongwe.

The suspects were involved in vandalising and stealing ESCOM cables, water meters, communication cables, transmitters and other valuable materials around the City Centre, Kawale, Mchesi, Kamuzu Barracks, State House, and other parts of the city.

Commander of the Malawi Defence Force, General Paul Valentino Phiri, emphasised the need to eliminate criminal activities in the city.

Deputy Inspector General, Happy Mkandawire, praised the joint operation between the MDF and the police, which led to the apprehension of the suspects.

32 of the suspected criminals have already been handed over to Lingazi Police.
