The High Court in Blantyre has vacated an order that stopped local councils from conducting elections for mayors and their deputies.
The removal of the stay order by Justice Allan Muhome means that councils can conduct elections for new mayors tomorrow, Tuesday.
Mayors from some councils obtained a court injunction that stopped the elections, which were set for Tuesday this week. They had asked for a judicial review before the elections.
Those who sought the court redress were Lilongwe City Mayor Richard Banda, Blantyre City Deputy Mayor Funny Balaba Kanojerera, Mayor for Zomba City Davie Maunde and Heese McLean Nyangu of Kasungu Municipality.
