Minister of Energy, Ibrahim Matola, has said the bilateral talks between President Dr Lazarus Chakwera and his United Arab Emirates counterpart will bring tangible benefits to the energy sector in Malawi and help in accelerating development.
In an interview with MBC, Matola said Dr Chakwera is fully aware of the difficulties Malawians have faced due to scarcity of fuel, prompting him to accept to travel to UAE to meet its leader and other government officials.
He says the new Government-to-Government fuel procurement policy will eliminate intermediaries unlike the current Open Tender System, which involves multiple middlemen and often delays fuel procurement.
The Minister also said the government engaged other countries such as Mozambique to boost its energy sector, which is crucial in job creation and economic prosperity.
