M’mbelwa DC urges community to utilise funds prudently

M’mbelwa District Council has urged communities in Mzimba to use wisely the money they are receiving for taking part in conservation efforts under the Enhanced Public works programme.

District Commissioner for the council, Rodney Simwaka, gave the advice on Tuesday when he inspected pay parade at Kaumphu primary school where over 1000 people received their payments.

“Don’t misuse it on beer. Use the money to improve your households,” he said.

One of the participants of the programme, Abner Phiri from Chakazi Village in TA Chindi, said the payment will asist him in purchasing food, which has run out in his household.

“These payments have come at the right time. We were about to starve to due lack of food. But now with this K38,400 I will buy maize,” Phiri said.

Mzimba District has rolled out payments for the third cycle of the multi-donor funded programme.

At least 15,000 people who took part in the conservation works are set to be paid in 19 catchment areas.
