Malawi media delegation in China for two-week seminar

A 23-member media delegation from Malawi is in the People’s Republic of China, attending a seminar on news reporting over the next two weeks.

Opening the seminar, Malawi’s Ambassador to China, Allan Chimtedza, encouraged the participants to be open-minded as they acquire knowledge that can add value to their work.

“I would like to encourage you to know more about China during the two weeks you will be here,” he said, adding that Malawi enjoys good ties with Hunan Province, where it has a consular office.

Hunan International Business Vocational College President Chen Bo, whose institution has organised the training, said they were happy to host the group.

“We will do our utmost to make the experience very valuable. Your feedback will be very important, and we hope that the seminar will be successful,” he said.

A representative of the delegation, Shadreck Chikoti, said that apart from honing their skills, the seminar will further cement the good ties between Malawi and China.

Apart from gaining a historical perspective of their host country, the team, whose first stop is Changsha in Hunan Province, has also appreciated how China, a country with about 1 billion people, has fared in terms of poverty alleviation.

The Malawi delegation is being led by MBC’s Director of News and Programmes, Zilani Khonje.
