The High Court in Lilongwe has ruled that former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s security aide, Norman Chisale, should be allowed to renew his passport following his request, as it had expired.
Chisale, along with the former Chief of Staff at State Residences, Peter Mukhito, and the former Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) Deputy Commissioner General, Roza Mbilizi, are accused of abusing the Taxpayer Identification Number (TPIN) of the former President, Professor Mutharika.
Meanwhile, the High Court has rejected an application by the defence seeking disclosure of an agreement between the court and the Chunuras, who are connected to the case.
Justice Chimbizgani Kacheche has adjourned the case to the first week of March 2025, scheduling the trial to run from the 4 to 7 March.
Defence lawyer Mercy Chijere, representing Mukhito, said the defence is ready to continue with the case.
At the same time, Director of Public Prosecutions, Masauko Chamkakala expressed satisfaction with the ruling and the progress towards commencing the trial.
