Lilongwe City Council demolishes Wadi Associates structures in Lilongwe

Lilongwe City Council has demolished structures in Area 46 belonging to Wadi Associates following noncompliance with the country’s land laws.

According to Deputy Director of Legal Services in the Ministry of Lands, Counsel Yohane Dzowa, the structures were built without approval from the council and without proper documentation to indicate that the plot was offered by the Ministry of Lands.

Dzowa also advised that one is required to first get approval from the council before the commencement of the developments to avoid similar occurrences.

He has since warned Malawians and said “We will not leave any stone unturned in trying to bring sanity to issues to do with land in the country.”

Lilongwe City Council has been carrying out demolitions of illegal structures in the city in line with the land laws. Some of the areas where demolition has taken place include; Malangalanga, Area 25 at Msungwi and Area 43.
