African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) has appointed Malawi Human Rights Commissioner Andrew Kavala as Expert Member of the Technical Working Group on the Rights of Older Persons and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in Africa.
Kavala, who is also a champion of elderly issues in Malawi, will be representing Southern Africa and will be on the position for a period of two years.
Among other things, the group will facilitate research on different areas of human rights and people of disability in the region on their social economic rights and enhance the development of policies and programs that will uplift their lives.
Reacting to the news, Kavala said the opportunity is a game changer for the country as a whole and the continent at large.
Other expert members include Maitre Saddam Hussein Meddeber, Patrick Laurent Badugue, Mrs. Rigbe Gebrehawaria Hagos and Dr Alidjou Bamba.
