Karonga Diocese to support 450 farmers with solar water pumps

Karonga Diocese, through Catholic Development Commission in Malawi (CADECOM), plans to support 450 farmers from the area of Senior Chief Wasambo in Karonga district with 30 solar water pumps.

CADECOM’s Project Coordinator, Matthias Bulukutu, revealed this on Saturday when introducing a project called Climate Just Communities (CJC) to Karonga District Council stakeholders, which CADECOM will implement in Senior Chief Wasambo’s area for 2 years.

Bulukutu-We want to encourage sustainable agriculture by supporting irrigation

“The project aims to empower communities to identify their own priorities to be addressed through climate justice support and build resilience to the impacts of climate change.

“Among other things, we want to encourage sustainable agriculture by supporting irrigation through the establishment of irrigation schemes for livelihood agriculture,” Bulukutu said.

The project is being funded under the Scottish Government’s Climate Justice Fund.
