The body of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Director of Women for the Central Region Lucy Kalebe was laid to rest at Ndevu Village in the area of T/A Kalolo in Lilongwe on Saturday.
First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera attended the funeral.
Speaking on behalf of President Dr Lazarus Chakwera , MCP Vice President, Harry Mkandawire, said the party has lost a pillar whose contribution towards women’s development is incalculable.
Described as frank, honest and caring Kalebe served the party for many decades and was also a member of the Chewa Heritage Foundation (CHEFO).
According to her husband, Jenita Chipasuwa Kalebe, the family has lost a caring mother, aunt, wife and sister.
Among other notable figures who attended the burial ceremony are Minister of Finance, Sosten Gwengwe, Minister of Health, Khumbize Chiponda, Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara and chiefs.
Kalebe succumbed to high blood pressure and sugar on 14 March 2023.
She is survived by a mother, husband, six children and 11 grandchildren.
She has died at the age of 67.
