Dedza Central East parliamentarian Joshua Malango has raised stakes in constituency football competitions by pegging the Joshua Malango Trophy at K15 million.
The tournament will be competed by 28 teams drawn from Dedza Central East Constituency.
According to Malango the trophy will be launched this monthend.
Speaking at Nanze Primary School in TA Kaphuka, during the official distribution of 28 football balls to the competing teams, Malango said he thought it wise to distribute the balls so that they start preparing for the competition.
“As usual the teams should expect more apart from receiving the balls. In the 2023 edition we will also distribute football kits to teams that will qualify for semi-finals and finals.
“”We will also conduct referee and coaches clinics. This will be conducted by trained referees and coaches because we want a professional competition. The aim is to unearth hidden talent,” said Malango.
Malango also disclosed that he plans to introduce a netball trophy, inter-denominational choir festival competition as well as rolling out a cultural competition day in Dedza East Constituency.
He added that the key objective of the competition is to engage the youth to be productive and showcase their talents.
Malango believes that the football competition will also unlock several opportunities for the youth as others might be spotted by scouts. The tournaments also seek to divert the youth from indulging in bad behaviours.
