Investors call for tax waiver on green energy technologies

Players in the energy sector are calling for tax exemption on green technologies to ably mainstream acceptable and affordable green energy solutions in the country.

They made the call during the Green Energy Enabling Environment Conference in Lilongwe.

Irish Ambassador to Malawi, Seamus O’Grady, equally stressed the need for clear policies, consistent application of laws and regulations and transparency in the green energy sector.

“As development partners, we will work in close collaboration with the government to advocate for policy reforms that promote sustainable development and create an enabling environment for private sector participation.

“Together, we can build a future where clean energy powers Malawi’s economy, protects our planet, and leaves no one behind,” said Seamus O’Grady, Irish Ambassador to Malawi.

Director of Energy in the Ministry of Energy, Joseph Kalowekamo, said the ministry will lobby for the removal of taxes on green energy technologies so that they should be accessible and affordable.
