Immigration starts clears out passports backlog at LL office

Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services says it is clearing all passports that were already printed in Lilongwe and has since urged those that applied sometime back to collect them.

The department’s Public Relations officer for the centre, Patrick Msume, has told MBC that currently they are doing everything possible to decongest their offices by clearing the backlog in passport issuance.

He also warned the public against use of middlemen, otherwise known as dobadobas.

One of the applicants, Bosco Balaba, said he is happy to have collected his passport but urged the institution to improve its public service delivery.

Currently, the department is printing between 700 and 1000 passports per day.
