Greenbelt Authority has reaffirmed its dedication to upholding all relevant laws, regulations and statutory requirements that align with the promotion of sustainable development and community engagement.
Director of Corporative Services at the Authority, Rachael Silungwe, said this on Friday in Nkhata Bay during a sensitisation meeting on Access to Information Act with communities at Lweya irrigation scheme which is under development in the area of Senior Chief Malanda.
“Through the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) who are custodians of the law, we organised this meeting to let our stakeholders know about Access to Information Act which will help them to smoothly access information on number of activities happening at the scheme so that we move forward together,” she said.
According to Silungwe, Greenbelt Authority was rated number four in the year 2024 by MHRC in terms of compliance with Access to Information Act with a score of 87 percent, an indication that they have interacted more with the Act and they are trying everything possible to do the same with all laws.
Senior Chief Malanda said the meeting has been an eye-opener to community members.
