Flames to face reigning COSAFA champions

Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, has been placed in Group B of the 2025 HollywoodBets COSAFA Cup in Mangaung (Bloemfontein), South Africa, from 4 June to 15 June 2025.

This is Malawi’s return to the tournament since 2023.

Flames’ group consists of COSAFA defending champions Angola, Namibia and Lesotho.

Flames assistant Coach, Peter Mponda, said his charges are ready to compete.

“These are good teams that can score each other on a given day,” Mponda said.

Sports analyst Dan Chemis described the group as fair.

Chemis said this will also be a platform for youthful Malawian players to be exposed internationally.

Hosts, South Africa, in Group A, are together with Mozambique, Mauritius and Zimbabwe.

The guest nation is Morocco, and they are in Group C, including Madagascar and Eswatini. Zambia is in Group D with Comoros and Botswana.

The top team in each pool advances to the semifinals, with the winner of Group A to face the top side in Group D, and the leading team in Group B up against the top team in Group C.
