Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has urged stakeholders in the country to join hands in developing sports in rural areas for a quality national football team.
Karonga District Football Association Vice Chairperson, Taniel Njawala, made these remarks at Uliwa Primary School Ground during the final of K12 million Duncan Kaonga Football and Netball Trophies.
Chairperson for the tournament’s committee, Davie Mkandawire, said the trophies have helped many people in the area in different ways ranging from behavior change to businesses.
Kaonga has since pledged to bring more contests this year.
In Football, Jetty Stars FC are champions of the trophy and have bagged K600,000 after beating Young Bullets FC 2-1.
The champions have also received uniforms and a football, while the runners-up have pocketed K350,000, trophy and a football.
In the Netball category, Uliwa Sisters were crowned champions after they defeated Bafana-Bafana Sisters 28 – 16.
Uliwa went away with K250,000, a trophy, uniforms and a netball while Bafana-Bafana received K150,000, uniforms and a netball.
