Days after President Dr Lazarus Chakwera instructed DoDMA to immediately intervene on the prevailing food shortage, the government has started distributing maize to households that are food insecure.
The 2024/2025 lean season food insecurity distribution programme which has been launched in Blantyre will see more than 1,000 beneficiaries provided with a 50 Kilogramme bag of Maize.
More than 5.7 million beneficiaries across the country will be targeted throughout the season.
The programme will be implemented in the next three to six months, depending on the need in respective districts.
Some of the districts which are badly affected by food shortages are Neno, Chikwawa, Machinga and Nsanje.
