Development partners rally behind Malawi’s agriculture, pledge continued support

The Agriculture Commercialisation Fund has increased from about K511 billion last year to approximately K589 billion this year, with an allocation of close to K600 billion to move farmers from smallholder farming to commercial farming.

Minister of Agriculture, Sam Kawale, said this in Lilongwe when he toured one of the mega farms supported by Mega Farm Support Unit, where he said the development has excited development partners, who will continue funding the agriculture sector as the investment is paying off.

One of the farmers benefitting from Mega Farm Support Unit, Lefinos Chigamula, a co-partner to Harry Kanjuzi, hailed the Agriculture Commercialisation Programme through the mega farm initiative, saying it is a game changer to the country’s development.

He said through the Mega Farm Support Unit, farmers are equipped with knowledge such that even if dry spells occur, they can have bumper yields.
