The Blantyre Central Magistrate Court has charged a Machinjiri-based couple, MacPherson and Linda Chitala, with acts intended to cause grievous harm, contrary to Section 235 of the Penal Code.
The two appeared in court on Monday for plea-taking and they denied the charges.
Magistrate Euphrasia Nazombe Moyo has denied them bail, ordering that they remain on remand at Blantyre Prison, commonly known as Chichiri Prison.
Earlier this month, Police authorities in Blantyre arrested Linda for abusing her stepdaughter after receiving a tip off from community members . Her husband was arrested late last week by law enforcers in connection to the case.
The court in Blantyre will continue hearing the matter next year on Thursday 9 January 2025.
