As the campaign for positions hots up ahead of the forthcoming Malawi Congress Party (MCP) convention, Director of Youth in the party, Richard Chimwendo Banda, has presented himself at MCP Central Region offices, declaring that he will contest for the position of Secretary General.
Chimwendo Banda has since stressed the need for unity.
“We need to continue strengthening the party structures and let’s continue promoting unity in the party under the leadership of our President Dr Lazarus Chakwera,” he said.
MCP Regional Chairperson for the Centre, Patrick Chilondola, said the interest for various positions in the party signifies that MCP is democratic and that it promotes tolerance.
“I am happy with the issue based campaign that is being conducted by all those aspiring for various positions [it] just shows that MCP is built on its four corner stones; unity, obedience, loyalty and discipline,” Chilondola said.
At least five senior members of the party have expressed their interest to contest for the SG position during the convention, to be held from 8th to 10th August 2024 at BICC in Lilongwe.
They include Treasurer General Albert Mbawala MP, Chris Chaima Banda, Chatinkha Nkhoma, Eisenhower Mkaka MP and Simplex Chithyola Banda MP.
