President Dr Lazarus Chakwera is set to attend the Extraordinary Summit of the Organ Troika and SADC Troika in Lusaka, Zambia.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President is expected to depart via Kamuzu International Airport today around 2 pm.
The summit is aimed at promoting peace and unity among SADC countries, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique by deploying troops under SADC countries along with those under UN to help in establishing peace.
The SADC mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC) and the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) are on the main agenda.
The Summit will be chaired by the President of Zambia, Hakainde Hichilema, in his capacity as Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation.
The summit will also reflect on the current situation in the eastern part of the DRC and Cabo Delgado in Northern Mozambique.
Malawi, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho are among the countries contributing to the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM).
The Malawi Leader will return home on Saturday, March 23, 2024.
