President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has hailed the commitment of Iceland to strengthening its relations with Malawi.
The Malawi leader was speaking at Kamuzu palace where he hosted a state banquet in honour of the visiting Iceland Prime Minister.
Dr Chakwera said it is pleasing that Iceland provides more development aid to Malawi than any other nation that it assists.
President Chakwera described this as a symbol of commitment to the relationship between the two countries
The Malawi leader indicated that Iceland has worked with the Malawi government to reach out to grassroots in different areas of social economic development.
Dr Chakwera noted that the 35 years of cooperation with Iceland has strengthened relationship, creating numerous areas of collaboration that benefit both countries.
In his remarks, Bjarni Benediktsson, Prime Minister of Iceland, said his country respects and cherishes the cordial relationship that has existed between the two nations.
Benediktsson said over 100 citizens of Iceland, from a population of 400,000 call Malawi their home.
He then pledged continued support to Malawi, pointing out that his country has added Nkhotakota District in its development agenda.
