President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has praised the Commission of Inquiry into the plane crash that claimed the lives of former Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima and eight others for its dedication and commitment to serving the nation.
Speaking at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe as he received the Commission’s report on the accident involving a Malawi Air Force Dornier 228 (MAF-TO3), Dr. Chakwera applauded the team for adhering to his directive to present the findings to the public before submitting them to him.
“I direct that this report be presented to the bereaved families by close of business on Friday. The report must also be translated in all the local languages,” Dr Chakwera said.
He also extended condolences to all Malawians following the loss of the nine that were on the plane.
Before presenting the report, Chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry, Justice Jabbar Alibe, commended the President for appointing the commission, saying this demonstrates his commitment to promoting transparency and accountability.
He said it is pleasing to note that the commission has served its purpose without any interference.
Minister of Information and Digitalisation and Government spokesperson, Moses Kunkuyu, said the Commission was composed of members with high integrity.
The Commission was established on October 24, 2024, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
