Business personnel warned against selling expired goods

Likoma District Council Trade Officer, Kumbukani Salema, has warned traders against selling expired products in the district, describing the tendency as a health hazard to the public.

Salema said this on Wednesday on the sidelines of an exercise where expired products were destroyed at a dumping site in the district, witnessed by police, health officials, business representatives and the district council.

“On 9 December, we had food inspection activity, our main focus was to confiscate all the expired products after a concern from the community, we managed to confiscate the products. this activity will be conducted quarterly to ensure that people are safe,” said Salema.

Chairperson for Jalo Market, James Simbeye, said he was pleased with the exercise as it will help the traders to avoid selling expired goods.
