The Balaka District Health Office has reported six cases of viral conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye disease.
Director of Health and Social Services for Balaka, Chimwemwe Thambo, confirmed that the six cases have been documented at Kankao Health Centre.
“All these cases were treated as outpatients and are in stable conditions,” Thambo said.
Health Minister Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda recently issued a directive, ordering the public to cease handshaking and the sharing of items such as glasses and sponges to mitigate further spread of the disease.
As of March 1, Malawi had recorded at least 800 cases of pink eye.
